Home Beautification Grants back
By the end of 2010, more Portage la Prairie residences will be looking better than ever. For a third consecutive year, the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corp. is offering its Home Beautification Grants program.
Funding for the grants is provided through the Neighbourhoods Alive! Community Housing Improvement Initiative, which is funded by Manitoba Housing.
Community facilitator Mary Lynn Moffat says the money can be used for pretty much anything on the outside of a residence, including landscaping, painting, windows and doors.
“These grants are awarded for exterior repairs that provide a visual improvement to the home or neighbourhood,” she said, adding people are seeing what it can do for their neighbour’s home and want to access the funding for themselves.
“The popularity is incredible. For example last year, we had 102 applications (for the homeowner grant,) and 16 were awarded. That makes it very difficult for the selection committee,” Moffat said, adding there are a lot of people who want to try to upgrade their homes and need that help.
Homeowners can apply for a grant up to a maximum of $2,500 and are expected to complete the labour for the project where possible.
